Apple has had a bustling fall, starting with a packed event in September, followed by the launch of the iPad mini 7 in mid-October, concluding with a series of thrilling announcements at the month’s end.
Along with these fresh product releases, Apple has also phased out several older products, which are no longer available for purchase via the Apple Store. Nevertheless, there are still some great deals to be had on last-generation products through third-party sellers.
#1 – iPad mini 6
In October, Apple rolled out a new model of the iPad mini, equipped with Apple Intelligence support, compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro, and a resolution to the jelly scrolling issue found in the iPad mini 6. While it may not be a massive upgrade, it was a welcome enhancement after a three-year interval.
Unless you have no interest in Apple Intelligence, there isn’t much urgency to purchase an older iPad mini model. However, last-gen models can still be acquired for $349 with 64GB of storage.
#2 – FineWoven iPhone Cases
Apple introduced the controversial FineWoven cases alongside the iPhone 15 last year, touted as an “eco-friendly” alternative to leather. Intended to offer a premium fabric feel, the cases unfortunately fell short, scratching easily and failing to deliver the high-quality experience customers expected.
Recognizing this, Apple has omitted FineWoven cases for the iPhone 16 models. However, FineWoven MagSafe wallets and Apple Watch bands remain available. If you’re interested in a FineWoven case for your iPhone 15, various deals can be found on Amazon, such as one for the iPhone 15 Pro priced at just $21.
#3 – M3 MacBook Pro
Last month, Apple launched the new MacBook Pro featuring the M4 chip, offering M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chipsets, enhanced Thunderbolt 5 for higher-end models, significant RAM upgrades, support for Center Stage, and an option for a nano-texture display.
Some intriguing deals are available on M3 MacBook Pros, including a base model priced at $1199 at Best Buy—an excellent deal for a 14-inch MacBook Pro with such display quality.
#4 – M2 Mac mini
The latest Mac mini redesign launched this month, showcasing a notably smaller form than its predecessor, with front I/O and M4/M4 Pro chipsets. This redesign also comes with robust RAM configurations, including 16GB for M4 and 24GB for M4 Pro by default. It stands as Apple’s most powerful desktop Mac to date.
While there aren’t significant deals on the outgoing Mac mini, it’s advisable not to make a purchase considering the redesign’s implications. The M4 Mac mini is available for $499 on Amazon after applying an on-page coupon, whereas the outgoing model sits at $469 but comes with less RAM.
#5 – M3 iMac
Last month saw an update to the iMac, transitioning from the M3 to the M4 chip, expanding Thunderbolt port availability and adding Center Stage capabilities, alongside a default configuration of 16GB of RAM, all starting at $1299. The new model also boasts a fresh palette of colors.
Currently, there are no standout deals on the previous M3 iMac, but you can find savings of $150 on the new model after clipping the on-page coupon, reducing it to $1149 on Amazon.
#6 and 7 – iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
Continuing a trend started in 2018 with the iPhone XS, Apple has discontinued the previous generation flagship iPhones, which means the iPhone 15 Pro models are no longer available following the release of the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, there’s a unique opportunity to purchase a refurbished 15 Pro, as it’s one of the few iPhones that supports Apple Intelligence.
A renewed premium 128GB iPhone 15 Pro is currently available for $719, while a renewed premium 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max is priced at $894. Amazon Renewed Premium devices come with a one-year return window for added peace of mind.
#8 – iPhone 13
The iPhone 13 debuted in 2021, featuring various enhancements such as improved battery life, a revamped camera system, and a reduced notch. Originally launched at $799, it has undergone several price reductions over the years, hitting a low of $599 before being discontinued.
While Amazon does not typically sell new iPhones in the US, you can find refurbished options for as low as $370 for an unlocked iPhone 13 in excellent condition.
#9, 10, and 11 – Lightning Magic Accessories
With the recent refresh of Mac products this fall, Apple has transitioned the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard to USB-C, discontinuing all Lightning versions.
There are some deals on the Lightning accessories model, however, I would suggest avoiding purchasing a Lightning accessory for the long term. Still, the Lightning Magic Mouse is currently available at a discount of $12, and the Magic Trackpad with Lightning is around $20 off.
#12 – Apple Watch Series 9
With the introduction of the slimmer Apple Watch Series 10, Apple has discontinued the Apple Watch Series 9 due to the lack of pricing space between the SE and Series 10.
You might find discounts on the Apple Watch Series 9, such as one for $299. However, I recommend against this purchase given that a Series 10 can be obtained for as low as $329.
#13, 14, and 15 – Remaining Lightning AirPods
Following the launch of AirPods 4 and USB-C AirPods Max, Apple has eliminated all remaining AirPods featuring a Lightning port, including AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max (Lightning version). Two models of AirPods 4 have been introduced, one with noise cancellation and one without.
Personally, I would steer clear of AirPods 2 or AirPods 3 as AirPods 4 present a much better deal. You can find the basic model for $119 or the noise-canceling version for $168. Additionally, if noise cancellation is a priority, consider the USB-C AirPods Pro 2, currently priced at $169.
Furthermore, some clearance deals on AirPods Max (Lightning) are available, starting at $399.
While the latest technology is undeniably appealing, it’s always beneficial to explore deals on recently discontinued products, at least from my perspective.
