15 Apple Products Discontinued This Fall

Apple has had a busy fall, kicking off with a packed September event, followed by the mid-October launch of the iPad mini 7, and concluding with an “exciting week of announcements” at the end of the month.

Alongside the plethora of new product releases, several older items have been discontinued, meaning they’re no longer accessible for purchase through the Apple Store. However, there are still some good deals to be found on last-gen products from third-party sellers.

#1 – iPad mini 6

In October, Apple launched an updated iPad mini model featuring support for Apple Intelligence, compatibility with Apple Pencil Pro, and a solution to the jelly scrolling issue present in the iPad mini 6. While the upgrade is relatively minor, it was much anticipated after a three-year wait.

There isn’t really a compelling reason to opt for the previous generation iPad mini, especially due to the lack of Apple Intelligence support. Currently, the iPad mini 7 is available for $459, but deals on the previous version are hard to come by.

#2 – FineWoven iPhone cases

Apple introduced the debated FineWoven cases with the iPhone 15 last year as an environmentally friendly alternative to leather. Marketed as a premium fabric option, it unfortunately fell short, with cases that scratched easily and failed to deliver the expected premium feel.

Acknowledging the feedback, Apple has dropped FineWoven cases for iPhone 16 models, though FineWoven MagSafe wallets and Apple Watch bands remain available. If you’re looking to snag a FineWoven case for your iPhone 15, there are deals on Amazon, including one for the iPhone 15 Plus at approximately $29.

#3 – M3 MacBook Pro

In late October, Apple introduced the new MacBook Pro featuring the M4 chip, with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max options, upgraded Thunderbolt 5 capabilities on higher-end models, significant RAM enhancements, Center Stage support, and the ability to configure the Mac with a nano-texture display.

There are some appealing deals on the M3 MacBook Pros, such as this offer at Best Buy where you can acquire the base model for $1299—a great deal for a 14-inch MacBook Pro with excellent display quality.

#4 – M2 Mac mini

Apple also revealed a major redesign of the Mac mini in October, making it significantly smaller than the previous model while adding frontal I/O and introducing M4/M4 Pro chipsets. The new design increases RAM, with the M4 version featuring 16GB as standard and the M4 Pro version offering 24GB. This makes it Apple’s most powerful desktop Mac.

While there aren’t many notable discounts on the outgoing Mac mini model, it’s best to avoid buying it due to the significant redesign now available. The M4 Mac mini currently retails for $579 on Amazon.

#5 – M3 iMac

The iMac also received a refresh last month, shifting from M3 to M4, gaining additional Thunderbolt ports and acquiring the same Center Stage functionality as the MacBook Pro. It now comes standard with 16GB of RAM—all starting at the same price of $1299. Additionally, it features a new array of colors.

Currently, there aren’t any outstanding deals on the outgoing M3 iMac, but you can save $100 on the latest model after applying the on-page coupon, bringing the price down to $1199 on Amazon.

#6 and 7 – iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

Continuing their tradition since the iPhone XS release in 2018, Apple has once again ceased production of the previous generation of flagship iPhones, leading to the removal of iPhone 15 Pro models upon the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro series. Nevertheless, there is a unique incentive to acquire a refurbished 15 Pro, as it’s one of the few iPhones supporting Apple Intelligence.

You can currently find a renewed premium 128GB iPhone 15 Pro for $725 and a renewed premium 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max for $864. Amazon Renewed Premium devices come with a one-year return policy, ensuring peace of mind in case of any issues.

#8 – iPhone 13

Launched in 2021, the iPhone 13 brought several enhancements, including extended battery life, a revamped camera system, and a more compact notch. Originally starting at $799, the price has dropped over the years, reaching a low of $599 before being discontinued.

Although Amazon doesn’t typically offer new iPhones in the U.S., you can uncover refurbished options for as low as $372 for an unlocked iPhone 13 in excellent condition.

#9, 10, and 11 – Lightning Magic Accessories

Following the new Mac refresh this fall, Apple transitioned the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard to USB-C, discontinuing all previous Lightning versions.

While some deals exist on Lightning versions of these accessories, it’s advisable to resist purchasing them if you plan to use the accessories long-term. Nonetheless, the Magic Trackpad with Lightning is currently about $20 off.

#12 – Apple Watch Series 9

With the launch of the sleeker Apple Watch Series 10, Apple phased out the older Apple Watch Series 9, possibly due to overlap in pricing, leaving little room for a watch between the SE and Series 10.

Deals on the Apple Watch Series 9 are available, but I’d advise against purchasing it since you can currently find Series 10 models starting at $329.

#13, 14, and 15 – Remaining Lightning AirPods

The release of AirPods 4 and USB-C AirPods Max marked the end of all remaining Lightning port AirPods, including AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max (Lightning). Apple introduced two variants of AirPods 4 at different price points—one with noise cancellation and the other without.

While I personally wouldn’t recommend purchasing AirPods 2 or AirPods 3, due to the appealing pricing of AirPods 4, you can grab the base version for $119 or the noise-canceling variant for $168. If you’re interested in noise cancellation, the USB-C AirPods Pro 2 are also available for $189.

Additionally, there are attractive clearance deals on AirPods Max (Lightning), with prices as low as $399.

While the latest tech may seem enticing, I believe it’s worth exploring deals on recently discontinued products.
