It may have surprised some people that Burning Shores, the story DLC for Horizon Forbidden West, was a PlayStation 5 exclusive when Sony first announced it. The publisher of PlayStation has provided fans with an explanation for why: the last-gen device could not manage all those beautiful clouds.
The developers of Horizon Zero Dawn realized that the PlayStation 4’s capabilities could not support their lofty cloud goals. That was fine at the time, but Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel, needed more work.
The improvements made to the flying mount that players received at the end of Forbidden West allowed them to soar above low-lying clouds that resembled fog, according to the developers.
Horizon Forbidden West Has Clouds
However further work was needed because Burning Shores is being developed with a sky exploration theme. To handle the vast amounts of data required to create these lovely clouds, voxel technology, and considerably more computing power would be needed. Simply said, the powerful PS5 is required for Burning Shores’ clouds.
But, Guerilla is a first-party company, and Burning Shores is a whole campaign DLC. Yet, Burning Shores is a whole campaign DLC, and Guerilla is a first-party company. Sony could cover the costs and allow gamers to have shabbier or fewer clouds if it wanted them to make a PS4 version.
This gives the impression that players are being encouraged to join the PS5 ecosystem as soon as feasible. If the PS4 has access to all of the most expensive titles at once, that cannot occur. Although getting a next-generation console is now simpler, not every household can afford to buy one.
