After being integrated into the Google (Search) application since February, Gemini has now launched as a standalone app for iPhone.
This means you’ll find the Gemini icon on your iPhone’s home screen, eliminating the need to navigate through the Google app or use the Search widget shortcut.
The Gemini interface on iOS has been updated to mirror that of Android, featuring a minimalist home screen that welcomes users with a “Hello” message, reminiscent of the simplicity associated with Google Search. You can access your conversation history under “Chats & Gems” in the top-left corner, while the text input has been streamlined to “Ask Gemini.”
Google promotes this app as a study aid and image generator powered by Imagen 3, allowing users to take photos and include them in prompts. Additionally, Gemini Extensions provide access to data from YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, Calendar, and other first-party services.
This app also introduces Gemini Live to iPhone users, a feature that debuted on Android in September. You can engage in a natural conversation, capable of interrupting Gemini to pose questions or insert new information, changing topics seamlessly. A Live Activity option lets you interact with Gemini Live even while using other apps or when your iPhone is locked.
It’s perfect for practicing for an upcoming interview, seeking advice on exploring a new city, or brainstorming and developing creative concepts.
Users can also select from a choice of ten distinct voices for all Gemini responses. At launch, the app supports various languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
The free Google Gemini app is now available in 35 languages globally on the App Store. You can still access Gemini through the Google app if you prefer that method or use the mobile web.
