Apple Vision Pro: The Ultimate Home Theater Experience as 2024’s Top Grossing Films Debut in 3D

For many users, Apple’s new ultrawide Mac Virtual Display feature in visionOS 2.2 beta is the standout application on the Apple Vision Pro. However, you don’t need to own a Mac to fully appreciate what Apple Vision Pro can offer, especially as a remarkable mobile cinema experience.

Over the last couple of months, I’ve been shuttling between my home and my family’s house, which is a four-hour drive away. My home setup includes an Apple TV 4K connected to a 65-inch Micro LED 4K TV, while my family’s place has a more modest 19-inch screen. It’s a lovely riverside retreat in the woods, a refreshing change from urban life, but it doesn’t quite compare to my entertainment setup back home.

Nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed using the Apple Vision Pro alongside my AirPods Pro 2 to indulge in movies and catch up on my favorite weekly shows.

My watchlist mainly includes Agatha All Along on Disney+, Shrinking on Apple TV+, and your typical saccharine Christmas rom-coms on Netflix, where characters spark romantic connections after coincidentally bumping into each other in public (bonus points for spilled coffee). Although there isn’t a dedicated Netflix app for Apple Vision Pro, the way visionOS 2 handles video playback through Safari with immersive environments is incredibly satisfying.

Me watching Shrinking by the river.

The Apple Vision Pro also captivates with its immersive video offerings, which range from Super Bowl highlights to original scripted shorts like Submerged. (Speaking of Submerged, how about a film anthology featuring astronauts stranded in space? Just a thought for aspiring directors!) There exists a fascinating space between standard and immersive video: 3D content. While theatrical 3D films can often be dim and tiring to watch, and 3D TVs have mostly faded into obscurity,

Apple Vision Pro is the perfect platform for experiencing 3D video. It delivers a bright, engaging picture that enhances the immersion of 3D content, particularly with the closeness and scale it provides. My own 3D movie collection is well-stocked, thanks to past iTunes Store purchases.

Recently, Disney+ has offered a stellar library of 3D content that plays beautifully on Apple Vision Pro. Notably, the top-grossing films of 2024 are available in 3D on Disney+, making Apple Vision Pro the ultimate way to enjoy Inside Out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine.

I had the chance to see Inside Out 2 in theaters with my kids and thoroughly enjoyed it, but my viewing of Deadpool and Wolverine was less than ideal, involving a friend’s patio TV and outdoor glare. It’s definitely time for a proper viewing experience using the best home theater setup I have. For those who appreciate a good movie experience, Apple Vision Pro offers an unparalleled and compelling option.

P.S. I’m drafting this piece in Vision Pro, utilizing the impressive ultrawide Mac Virtual Display feature with my M4 Mac mini while I’m away from home. The best part? No one can see what I’m working on! 🙂
