Rumors have suggested that Apple may collaborate with various AI chatbot companies to enhance its Apple Intelligence features. The partnership with OpenAI has already materialized, introducing ChatGPT into iOS, which is now available in the iOS 18.2 beta set to launch in December.
As of now, there haven’t been any updates regarding potential collaborations with other services like Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude, although Bloomberg has previously indicated their inclusion. Apple software executive Craig Federighi expressed interest in seeing Gemini integrated within Apple Intelligence during an interview back in June.
Recently, Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter provided insights into Apple’s upcoming timeline:
Future enhancements may include an integration with Google Gemini. However, Apple is likely to give OpenAI a substantial period of exclusivity, particularly since they are not directly compensating for the technology. Therefore, the Gemini chatbot may not be available in iOS until next year.
According to Gurman, it appears that Google Gemini integration will not be available until next year; it remains unclear whether this will occur in the spring (like in iOS 18.4) or later in the year as part of the iOS 19 launch cycle.
In any case, it seems unlikely that Gemini integration will occur this year, as some had anticipated.
If you’re eager to use Gemini on your iPhone, there is some good news! Google unveiled a standalone Gemini app on the App Store this week, enabling iOS users to access the latest AI innovations directly from their devices.
