Overcast Introduces Enhanced Listening Stats and 48-Hour Undo Functionality

The well-known podcast application Overcast has received a significant update today, introducing a new feature for tracking your listening statistics. Users can now see which podcasts they have listened to most frequently over the past two years.

This update also includes a highly beneficial new feature that records a 48-hour listening history and an undo option, making it easier to recover from mistakenly skipping a podcast.

The 48-hour listening history feature enhances the undo seek capability that Overcast rolled out earlier this year.

  • 48-hour History and Undo: If you accidentally skip too far, let your phone play through the night, or delete the wrong podcast or playlist, simply undo the action!

The undo seek feature has been a standout aspect of Overcast’s major update in July, so I’m excited to see this new capability extend further.

Additionally, the Listening Stats feature provides Overcast users with an excellent method to review their podcast consumption on a daily, monthly, or yearly timeline.

  • Listening Stats: View your most listened-to podcasts by year, month, or day, with data dating back to the beginning of 2023! You can also create images of your favorite podcasts to share on social media.

The new features for 48-hour history and listening stats are now available for Overcast Premium users. In conjunction with this update, the price for Overcast Premium will increase from $9.99 per year to $14.99 annually.

This marks the first price adjustment in Overcast’s eight-year existence. The new pricing will take effect for new subscribers on November 21, and for existing subscribers upon renewal of their subscription.

Marco Arment, the developer behind Overcast, elaborates:

“My business model is to provide a huge surplus of value to you over time, far greater than what I charge, so when I eventually ask for more, it’s a no-brainer. I hope I’ve achieved that for you.”

Overcast has been a staple on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac docks for years, and I have always considered the $9.99 annual fee to be quite generous. I’m willing to pay a higher price, especially given the influx of new features this year.

You can download Overcast for free from the App Store.
