Uber for iOS Introduces New Home Screen Widget for Easy Ride Requests

This Wednesday, Uber unveiled several new features for its app in time for the holiday season. Among these updates is a brand new category named UberXXL, along with an innovative Home Screen widget for iPhone and iPad users.

The updated version of the Uber app for iOS now includes a Home Screen widget, allowing users to effortlessly request rides to suggested destinations with just a few taps.

“Your time matters, especially during the busy holiday period. That’s why we’re enhancing the ride request experience. Starting today, iPhone users can simply add a new Uber widget to their Home Screen for quick ride requests – needing as few as two taps,” the company shared in their blog announcement.

Alongside the widget, there are several additional updates included in this rollout. One noteworthy feature is the UberXXL category, which enables users to request vehicles with larger luggage compartments. This is particularly useful for individuals with extra baggage or those traveling in larger groups. The UberXXL service will be available for over 60 airports globally.

Additionally, Uber is introducing an option for travelers heading to airports to share rides with another passenger headed in the same direction. This feature provides fare reductions of up to 25% compared to the UberX rate. Users can also input their flight details to receive tailored recommendations for optimal departure times and Uber requests.

The Uber app can be downloaded for free from the App Store and is compatible with devices running iOS 16.2 or later. Ensure that you have the most recent version of the app to take advantage of these new features.
