I’ve been saying it frequently lately, but Apple TV+ is boasting an impressive lineup of shows right now. Not too long ago, I pointed out that the platform had three of the best shows airing anywhere. This current selection is giving that prior success a serious run for its money. With the three series currently available, Apple TV+ could very well have the strongest lineup in its history.
Apple TV+ Continues to Reach New Heights This Fall
At the beginning of October, Apple TV+ viewers were treated to a trio of fantastic shows releasing simultaneously: Bad Monkey, Slow Horses, and Pachinko.
Historically, Apple has focused on rolling out one major series at a time, occasionally two. But during a fleeting moment, fans had the pleasure of enjoying three of its best shows all airing new episodes together.
Now, a similar situation is unfolding, and this round may be even more exciting.
In fact, it’s likely the most opportune time to be a subscriber to Apple TV+.
The latest round of three standout series includes the following:
#1: Silo
If you’re an Apple TV+ subscriber, you’re likely familiar with Silo. Its much-anticipated second season just kicked off, with new episodes scheduled to roll out weekly until January 17, 2025 (the same day Severance, another highly-anticipated series, returns).
For those who don’t know, here’s the summary from Apple:
Silo tells the story of the last ten thousand people on Earth, residing in a mile-deep structure that protects them from the toxic and deadly environment outside. However, no one knows the origins of the silo, and anyone who attempts to uncover its secrets faces dire consequences. Rebecca Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer determined to find out the truth behind a loved one’s demise, unraveling a mystery that runs deeper than she ever anticipated, leading her to learn that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth just might.
I initially delayed watching the first season longer than many, as it seemed overly dark and dreary. I was pleasantly surprised upon finally deciding to watch; I even devoured the Silo book trilogy afterward. Critics have lavished praise on season 2, and seasons 3 and 4 are already in development.
Silo is available to stream on Apple TV+.
#2: Shrinking
Heard of Ted Lasso? Surely you have. But did you know that its creator, Bill Lawrence, has crafted another excellent Apple TV+ series? In fact, he has created two subsequent shows (including Bad Monkey), but his first follow-up to Lasso was Shrinking.
Here’s how Apple describes it:
Shrinking revolves around a grieving therapist who begins to break conventional rules and tells his clients precisely what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethical guidelines, he finds himself instigating significant, tumultuous changes in the lives of others—and his own.
The ensemble cast of this heartfelt comedy rivals that of Lasso, with the legendary comedian Harrison Ford taking the lead. Like Lasso, Shrinking occasionally delves into serious territory (for a comedy), but that’s no reason to stay away.
Shrinking is available to stream on Apple TV+.
#3: Bad Sisters
Bad Sisters, much like Silo, is a series I delayed watching far too long. A dark comedy about a close-knit group of sisters conspiring against their brother-in-law? It didn’t quite draw me in initially. However, the flood of critical acclaim finally persuaded me to give it a try, and it quickly became one of my all-time favorites on TV+.
Here’s the Apple summary:
The closely bonded Garvey sisters have always had each other’s backs. But when their brother-in-law is found dead, his life insurers ignite an investigation into potential foul play — focusing their attention on the sisters, all of whom had valid motives to kill him.
The second season has just begun airing, running through Christmas Day — giving you ample opportunity to catch up on season one before diving in.
Bad Sisters is available to stream on Apple TV+.
Conclusion
No television series will suit everyone, but the shows Apple has been presenting this fall are undeniably among its finest. To witness three outstanding shows at once last month, followed by another trio of potentially even better ones just a month later? It’s challenging to match this impressive lineup in the five years since Apple TV+ launched.
