The upcoming version of Apple’s CarPlay continues to evolve. Recently, we observed new CarPlay icons in the iOS 18.2 beta, and now additional next-gen CarPlay materials have surfaced in a public online repository.
New materials highlight Audi CarPlay instruments
Apple has indicated that the initial vehicles featuring its ‘next generation’ CarPlay are set to launch this year, but the specifics remain unknown.
A potential clue could lie in a recent submission to the European Union Intellectual Property Office. According to a report from MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, the office has published an Apple filing that appears to include Audi-specific next-gen CarPlay designs.
These new materials were first filed with the EUIPO on November 8, 2024, and became publicly available exactly one week later on November 15.
While the materials don’t reveal anything strikingly new or different from Apple’s existing design concepts, it was already known that Audi would participate as a next-gen CarPlay collaborator, so this isn’t unexpected.
Nonetheless, these assets provide further confirmation that the next generation of CarPlay is actively in development and, hopefully, will be available soon.
