As 2024 draws to a close, Apple Books is gearing up to toast the year in publishing. The ‘Year in Review’ feature, which debuted last year, is making a return for Books users starting today. Expect to see curated lists in the Books app showcasing the top books and audiobooks of 2024, notable author debuts, and more.
Year in Review returns for the second edition of Books
While Apple Books might not boast the same user base as Amazon’s Kindle and Audible, I’ve always appreciated the app’s clean interface and rich editorial content.
The introduction of the Year in Review feature last year was a delightful surprise, one that I believed surpassed the more widely used ‘Apple Music Replay’ feature in execution.
This year, the Year in Review returns for its second run, accessible from the Home tab within the Books app. It presents a wealth of intriguing insights into your reading habits over the past year, featuring:
- the total number of books you’ve read
- cumulative reading minutes
- the longest book and audiobook you engaged with
- the genre and author you read the most
- statistics related to your reading goals
- and additional insights
Curated lists spotlight the best in publishing
Alongside the Year in Review, the editorial team at Books has rolled out several end-of-year lists:
The best book and audiobook lists feature 20 titles each, showcasing some overlap but also significant diversity. Common titles on both lists include Sally Rooney’s Intermezzo, Percival Everett’s James, Kristin Hannah’s The Women, among others.
A ‘Best Debuts of 2024’ list is also available within the app, found in the Book Store tab. This list highlights 10 debut novels from emerging authors handpicked by Apple’s editorial team.
Furthermore, the top-selling books and audiobooks of 2024 are listed across Fiction and Nonfiction categories.
Apple’s media teams have been active in curating their top picks in recent weeks, similar to initiatives seen from Apple Podcasts and Apple Music.
On the same day that the Year in Review launches for Books users, Apple Music has also unveiled its annual Music Replay recap.
