Occasionally, a developer launches an app that enables your iPhone screen to mimic a classic iPod. Although these apps are typically short-lived due to Apple’s interventions, there’s a new option available that you might want to check out before it’s taken down.
In order to navigate around Apple’s restrictions, developers often use various tactics to mask the app’s true functionality, and this latest creation is no exception…
App Store review guidelines limit the use of images depicting Apple products or their interfaces, and such applications can also fall under the category of “copycat” apps. This necessitates some inventive strategies to pass the app review process.
For instance, Rewound required users to implement a theme post-download.
The application features standard control buttons by default. The clever aspect lies in a function that lets users apply any image as a player skin. When the iPod Classic theme is added, which is not part of the initial app, it conceals the buttons, enabling control via a virtual Click Wheel.
In the case of My Classic-Retro Console (noted by Macworld), the primary advertised feature is emulating the GameBoy. The iPod emulator capability is absent from both the app description and the App Store screenshots.
The app is priced at $2.99, and users can optionally provide a tip within the app.
DMN’s Perspective
While Apple’s regulations are generally justifiable, it seems unfortunate to prohibit these harmless nostalgic applications. However, the app will likely be removed soon, so seize the opportunity while it’s available.
