Netflix CEO Set for Cameo in Upcoming Apple TV+ Comedy

The highly anticipated Seth Rogen comedy, The Studio, will include a special cameo from Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos. Even though the series is produced for Apple TV+, Rogen shared with Vanity Fair that Sarandos agreed to appear in a project from a competing streaming service as a personal favor. Rogen described this request as ambitious, but as the saying goes, you won’t know unless you ask.

The Studio is a ten-episode satirical comedy that delves into the inner workings of a film studio struggling to stay relevant; Rogen portrays the newly appointed studio head, Matt Remick, in the series.

Rogen revealed that his connection with Sarandos dates back to a time when Netflix was primarily recognized for its DVD rental service. When coordinating Sarandos’ cameo, Rogen admitted he didn’t specifically seek approval from Apple:

Part of it required not getting permission. “I just emailed him. I did not ask our Apple partners if I could do this,” Rogen chuckled. (Presumably, Apple had enough confidence to not view this as an issue.) “I sent him the script and mentioned, ‘We have this joke. You actually provide this insight that resonates throughout my character arc.’ He quickly agreed, saying, ‘Yes, if I can fit this into my schedule, I’d love to participate.’”

The narrative portrays an egotistical executive struggling to maintain relevance as the significance of Hollywood films wanes, serving as a meta-commentary on reality. Consequently, The Studio is set to feature a variety of guest appearances from notable Hollywood figures, including renowned director Martin Scorsese, director Zack Snyder, Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Adam Scott (Severance), among others.

The main cast comprises Rogen, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders. This marks Rogen’s second collaboration with Apple TV+, following the success of the 2023 comedy Platonic, also featuring Rose Byrne, which has been renewed for a second season.

The series will premiere exclusively on the Apple TV+ streaming platform on March 28, 2025, with the first two episodes available. The remaining episodes will be released weekly until May 23.
