New Find My Feature in iOS 18.2 Now Supported by Major Airlines

Recently, iOS 18.2 launched a convenient update to Find My, allowing users to share the location of their misplaced items with others, including airlines. Apple has unveiled the major airlines that are currently supporting this feature.

Three prominent airlines now back Find My bag tracking

A common application of Find My is to attach an AirTag to your luggage and keep track of your checked bags while traveling.

With the introduction of iOS 18.2, Apple has enabled the function to share the location of items with airlines, and it was previously announced that over 15 airlines would roll out support globally in the upcoming months. An additional app integration was added just last week.

However, as we approach the busy holiday travel season, we now know which of those 15 airlines are equipped to track lost luggage immediately.

Greg Joswiak from Apple shared the exciting news in a post on X:

Great news for travelers! Starting this week, United, Delta, and Air Canada will accept Find My item locations to assist with tracking delayed luggage, with more airlines expected to join soon. This is a total game-changer!

If you’re traveling this week, you now have three major airlines that support the new Find My functionality:

Given that Delta and United handle a large portion of air travel in the US, many iPhone users in the country will be able to share their lost bag’s location with these airlines if necessary.

Steps to use Find My’s new airline-friendly feature

If you encounter issues with lost luggage, follow these steps to share its location:

  1. Make sure you have iOS 18.2 installed
  2. Access Find My and select the missing item
  3. Choose ‘Share Item Location’
  4. A webpage with a shareable tracking link for the item will be created

Different airlines provide their own methods for submitting that shared link, so it’s best to consult your airline for specific instructions.

Also, remember to disable the tracking link once your bag has been successfully retrieved.
