One of my top picks from Apple TV+ this year, Bad Monkey, is officially going to have a second season, as confirmed by Apple. Here’s the complete announcement.
The upcoming season of Bad Monkey won’t be based on the sequel book
Variety shared the exciting news about the upcoming second season of Bad Monkey.
Interestingly, it appears that the storyline won’t proceed in the direction many fans anticipated.
As Joe Otterson reports:
The first season drew inspiration from Carl Hiaasen’s novel of the same name. Although a sequel novel titled “Razor Girl” exists, sources suggest that Season 2 will not be derived from that text.
It’s possible that the second season is pursuing another narrative path because ‘Razor Girl’ might be considered for a subsequent season. Series co-creator Bill Lawrence previously indicated that he envisions a three-season storyline for Bad Monkey.
Speaking of Lawrence, here’s his statement regarding the renewal of the second season:
“I want people to recognize that Carl Hiaasen is someone I truly admire and have drawn creative inspiration from,” Lawrence remarked. “Continuing to tell his story alongside Vince Vaughn and this fantastic cast—at least those characters still alive—is genuinely thrilling. I’m incredibly grateful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as the entire team who helps bring this show to life.”
The inaugural season of Bad Monkey premiered this summer and managed to lead the charts on Apple TV+ for a significant portion of its airing.
If you’re not acquainted, Bad Monkey marks the third Apple TV+ series from Bill Lawrence, who also co-created Ted Lasso and Shrinking. In my view (and likely that of many others), Lawrence has contributed to three of the finest shows on Apple to date.
While no release date for the second season has been established yet, it’s hopeful that Bad Monkey will make its return around August 2025, one year after the debut of its first season.
