With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple introduced a powerful enhancement for AirTags known as “Share Item Location.” This new capability enables users to share the location of a misplaced AirTag or any Find My network accessory with a trusted individual.
As part of the Share Item Location rollout, Apple has partnered with airlines around the globe. Below is a list of airlines that have adopted this feature.
Steps to Share an AirTag Location with an Airline
As previously discussed, the Share Item Location functionality allows you to create a link that displays the location of a lost AirTag or other Find My network devices. This link enables a designated person to track the item’s location on a dynamic map, which refreshes as the item moves. Additionally, the link provides a timestamp indicating the last location update.
To create a Share Item Location link, simply open the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
The following airlines have integrated support for receiving location links from the Find My app:
- United
- Delta
- British Airways
- Lufthansa
- Air Canada
- Air New Zealand
- Turkish Airlines
- Aer Lingus
- Austrian Airlines
- Brussels Airlines
- Swiss
- Eurowings
- Iberia Airlines
This means that if you travel with any of these airlines and misplace your luggage equipped with an AirTag, you can share its location to assist the airline in its efforts to locate it.
For instance, travelers on United can report delayed luggage through the United app and attach a Find My link to that report. Once submitted, United customer service representatives can use the link to expedite the search for the lost luggage.
Moreover, Apple emphasizes various privacy safeguards implemented alongside the new Share Item Location feature for AirTags:
- Location sharing automatically stops once a customer retrieves their bag.
- Users can disable location sharing at any chosen moment.
- The link will become inactive after 7 days.
- The whole process is protected by end-to-end encryption and remains anonymous, ensuring that no one, including Apple or accessory producers, can access the item’s location.
This adds yet another reason to consider AirTags as an essential travel accessory.
