As anticipated, Apple is beginning to phase out the sales of the Lightning-equipped iPhone SE and iPhone 14 models within the European Union. This move aligns with the EU’s common charger regulation, which goes into effect on December 28, mandating that smartphones be equipped with USB-C chargers.
Reports regarding Apple’s decision to discontinue sales of the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus in the EU were first shared by iGeneration last week. Following this, MacRumors indicated today that these devices are no longer listed on Apple’s online store in Switzerland. DMN has also confirmed this update.
With the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 series no longer available in Switzerland, we anticipate that other European Union countries will soon follow this trend. By the December 28 deadline, Apple is expected to have removed these devices from all affected regions. Currently, they have only been withdrawn from sale in Switzerland.
Once this change is implemented, the available iPhone models in the European Union will include the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and the full iPhone 16 lineup. The EU legislation mandates that all new smartphone sales feature USB-C for charging.
Apple is projected to introduce a new version of the iPhone SE in the upcoming spring. The revamped iPhone SE is expected to come with USB-C, a significant redesign, edge-to-edge display, Face ID, and enhanced camera capabilities.
