Apple has phased out AirPods Max with Lightning in favor of the newer USB-C version that was launched last fall. Nevertheless, the original models can still be found in certain stores, and here are three reasons this choice might be right for you.

While Apple doesn’t offer both models anymore, retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Target still have them available. Here are some key points to consider when looking for AirPods Max in 2025:

• The sound quality, battery life, and features are identical for both Lightning and USB-C AirPods Max.
• Apple only provides the USB-C model, which shares the same charging port with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16.
• Other stores carry both versions, including the Lightning model that works with the charging port on the iPhone 14 and older models.

If you prefer a unified charging cable for your iPhone and AirPods and aren’t planning to upgrade from an iPhone 14 or older for a while, the Lightning AirPods Max might be a more appealing choice for you right now. However, many modern devices, including the latest iPhones and iPads, now feature USB-C charging.
