In light of recent government regulatory changes, Apple has announced the upcoming introduction of new hearing aid features for AirPods Pro 2 users in the UK.
According to a statement provided to The Telegraph, Apple is set to roll out these hearing aid capabilities to AirPods Pro users in the UK within the next few weeks, following the recent updates to government policy.
The statement from the UK government on Thursday confirmed that over-the-counter hearing aids are now permissible.
This policy is in line with the broader framework established by the US in 2022, which initially motivated Apple to create hearing aid features for its AirPods. These features were introduced in the US as a complimentary software update in late 2024.
The Hearing Health update includes a home hearing test that allows users to determine their need for hearing aid support. Based on the test results, AirPods Pro 2 can assist with managing mild to moderate hearing loss. Additionally, users have the option to upload an audiogram from a hearing health professional.
Furthermore, the Loud Sound Reduction feature can automatically lessen the effects of loud environments, as long as the AirPods are being worn.
