Anticipated Early Release of M3 iPad Air Appears Confirmed

Bloomberg has indicated that the iPad Air may see a launch earlier this year, ahead of prior expectations. It was suggested that the device would likely feature an M3 chip, rather than an M4, a detail that appears to have support from a source close to the matter.

While today’s news lacks specific timelines, a disclosed document references the “iPad Air 13 (M3)” and the “iPad Air 11 (M3)”…

2025 iPad Air

The iPad Air typically receives updates every 18 to 24 months, but Bloomberg noted last October that an update was expected “early next year” (now), indicating a quicker turnaround.

Sources familiar with the situation have stated that Apple is approaching the production stage for a new iPhone SE — codenamed V59 — to launch as its entry-level model. Additionally, the company plans to start manufacturing new iPad Air models and keyboards around the same timeframe.

While Gurman did not comment on the processor back then, we anticipated an upgrade, likely to the M3 chip instead of the M4.

The introduction of the M3 chip in the upcoming iPad Air seems probable. Initially, we thought Apple was eager to shift away from the first-generation 3nm process due to high costs and low yields, yet the use of the A17 Pro chip in the iPad mini contradicts that. Historically, iPad Air chips have lagged one year behind, making the M3 a reasonable expectation.

M3 Chip Leak

Evan Blass, known as @evleaks, has hinted at a private document that contains these references.

  • iPad Air 11 (M3)

Though this information aligns with our predictions, it adds credibility to the notion of an imminent launch.

The document also mentions a new iteration of the entry-level 11-inch iPad.

Other Possible Enhancements

Mark Gurman indicated that a new Magic Keyboard tailored for the iPad Air may be on the horizon, designed to replace the one initially rolled out for the 2020 iPad Pro. This new keyboard is anticipated to include a function key row, aligning it with contemporary iPad keyboard designs.

There are suggestions of a potential 90Hz display, although this remains unconfirmed.

Speculative upgrades may also include a brighter display and support for Wi-Fi 7.
