Colorado Police Now Offering Free AirTags to Help Prevent Vehicle Thefts

Apple’s AirTag has proven to be an effective tool for tracking the location of vehicles, and now a police department in Colorado has recognized its value by distributing them for free to combat auto theft.

CBS Colorado reported recently on its YouTube channel about the AirTag distribution initiative in Arvada, Colorado (source: AppleInsider).

According to the report, the police department aims to reduce auto theft incidents by providing free AirTags and Tile trackers to community members. The first giveaway has already taken place, with plans for another event in the near future.

A crucial element of the giveaway includes a sticker that can be affixed to vehicles, alerting potential thieves that the vehicle has tracking capabilities.

The sticker states that the police will be able to locate the vehicle if it is reported stolen, indicating it is ‘Tracker Equipped.’

However, this would require AirTag owners to provide their location details to law enforcement. The giveaway does not grant police any special tracking rights.

Nonetheless, in the event of a theft, the AirTag can assist law enforcement in locating the stolen vehicle.

It will be intriguing to observe whether this initiative results in a significant decline in auto thefts within the Arvada community. If successful, this may inspire other cities to initiate similar AirTag giveaway programs.
