iOS 18.3 Release Candidate Now Accessible to Beta Testers

The Release Candidate for iOS 18.3 is currently being distributed to developers and public beta testers. This update follows a week after the release of the third beta, which introduced significant updates to the Apple Intelligence notification summaries feature.

The build number for the iOS 18.3 RC is 22D60, and it is accessible to all those enrolled in the developer and public beta programs.

Initially, iOS 18.3 was anticipated to be a relatively modest update compared to the substantial changes seen in iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2. However, last week, Apple opted to implement a series of notable updates to the Apple Intelligence notification summaries following feedback from various news organizations, including the BBC, regarding the dissemination of misinformation through flawed summaries.

In response to these concerns, Apple introduced several modifications in the iOS 18.3 beta 3:

  • The Apple Intelligence notification summaries feature has been temporarily suspended for apps in the News & Entertainment category, with plans for its return in a future software update.
  • Users can now disable notification summaries for individual apps directly from their iPhone’s Lock Screen.
  • Notification summaries will now display in italicized text to create a clearer distinction from standard notifications.
  • When activating notification summaries, Apple explicitly indicates that the feature is in beta and “may contain errors.”

It is expected that iOS 18.3 will be launched for the general public later this month. It remains uncertain if Apple has more adjustments planned for the update.
