What is StandBy mode?
Introduced in iOS 17, StandBy mode functions as a new lock screen feature that activates when your iPhone is charging and laid on its side in horizontal mode. It resembles the Apple Watch’s Nightstand Mode, displaying useful information when the phone is idle.
This mode is also highly customizable; users can choose to show photos, widgets, various clock designs, and more. It includes an interactive and adjustable photo display, offering themes like Nature, Pets, Cities, and People or specific albums from your Photos library.
In StandBy mode, the clock display offers a variety of themes, including Digital, Analogue, World, Solar, and Float, with some displaying extra information like temperature or upcoming alarms. Notifications, Live Activities, and Siri responses are also integrated within this mode in a full-screen format.
A notable feature of StandBy is its MagSafe position awareness, which saves your preferred screen and widget layout based on the charger’s location.
You can enable and configure StandBy mode through the Settings app on your iPhone by selecting the “StandBy” menu.

Belkin is known for producing excellent Apple accessories, making them my top choice for an iPhone charger designed for StandBy. The Belkin MagSafe 2-in-1 Wireless Charger features a stand that delivers 15W charging for your iPhone and a Qi charging pad conveniently integrated into its base for your AirPods.
There are three aspects I appreciate about the Belkin 2-in-1 MagSafe Wireless Charger. Firstly, it boasts a premium design with a sturdy base and a sleek chrome finish. Secondly, its compact circular design occupies minimal space on my desk while allowing for dual device charging. Lastly, it’s officially MagSafe certified by Apple.
As mentioned earlier, choosing a StandBy charger that is MagSafe compatible is advisable. This is because MagSafe-enabled iPhone stands can retain your StandBy preferences.
For example, I have a MagSafe stand on my desk and another on my nightstand, each with distinct StandBy configurations. Thanks to MagSafe, StandBy remembers my preferences and displays the appropriate widgets and options for each stand automatically.

Satechi Aluminum 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand

If you’re in the market for something similar to the Belkin 2-in-1 stand but prefer an aluminum finish at a more affordable price, Satechi has the answer. The Satechi Aluminum 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand comes with an upright iPhone charger and a Qi charging pad embedded in the base.
Keep in mind two things. Firstly, the iPhone’s wireless charging is capped at 7.5W because this model does not support MagSafe. Secondly, you need to provide your own 18/20W power adapter, as Satechi does not include one with the product.
If you are comfortable with these trade-offs, you can obtain the Satechi 2-in-1 wireless charger on Amazon. Like Belkin, they also offer a more expensive 3-in-1 model that includes built-in Apple Watch charging.
Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe
Price: $134.95
If there were awards for innovative designs, Anker’s 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe would certainly win. This compact cube charges your iPhone at 15W, rapidly charges your Apple Watch, and powers your AirPods, all while being easily foldable.

For those seeking a premium charging solution for their iPhone’s StandBy mode, the Nomad Stand One is an excellent choice. This stand features a sleek upright design made from robust metal and glass, complete with an integrated braided USB-C cable for charging. It supports MagSafe with charging speeds up to 15W.
With a comfortable 21-degree viewing angle, the Nomad Stand One is fantastic for StandBy mode. However, the primary drawbacks are its higher price point and its limitation of only charging the iPhone.
