With the arrival of iOS 18 last autumn, Apple Notes received a host of new features, such as collapsible sections, color highlights, audio recording with transcripts, and much more. Recently, I came across another addition that fulfills a long-standing wish of mine, potentially benefiting many power users like myself.
Shortcut for Switching Between Notes in iOS 18
As of now, I have accumulated over 2,500 notes within Apple Notes, as I am a frequent user of the app and have been for many years.
One persistent challenge I’ve faced is the process of switching between notes.
Typically, navigating manually between various notes isn’t overly problematic. However, there have been instances where I’m rapidly flicking between two or three notes, and the app tends to lag.
Given the extensive number of notes I have, my Notes application has a complex folder structure that can significantly slow down the note-switching process. When two notes are located in completely different folders and sub-folders, it can require multiple swipes and taps to navigate between them.
Fortunately, I have recently uncovered that iOS 18 has implemented a feature to assist ‘power users’ of Notes like myself.
Within the three-dot menu located in the top-right corner of the app, there is now a Recent Notes sub-menu.
Opening this menu displays the last 10 notes you have accessed on your device, allowing you to tap on each note for a quick switch.
This new Recent Notes feature has provided me with an efficient, trustworthy method to speed up the back-and-forth switching between notes.
Honestly, I would love for Apple to streamline the process even further by reducing the taps required, if possible. Nevertheless, the changes in iOS 18 are a commendable step forward.
