Review: BenQ 32-Inch Ergo Arm Programming Monitor with MoonHalo Offers Advantages for All Users

If 27-inch 5K displays don’t appeal to you, I highly recommend checking out BenQ’s 32-inch 4K monitor—which I’ve had the pleasure of testing and truly enjoy. The BenQ RD320UA 32-inch Ergo Arm Programming Monitor with MoonHalo is expertly crafted to enhance comfort during those lengthy coding or writing stints.

Usage of BenQ RD320UA

As a 4K monitor, the RD320UA offers exceptional clarity at 1920×1080 resolution. Personally, I’ve opted for the scaled resolution of 2560×1440, which feels comfortable and avoids eye strain. This resolution fits seamlessly alongside my 27-inch 5K monitor, with no awkward resizing issues.

Talking about eye fatigue, the RD320UA helps reduce discomfort through three specific features.

MoonHalo Feature

The unique MoonHalo lighting serves as a customizable backlight that illuminates the area behind the monitor, effectively alleviating eye strain caused by the bright screen.

This is particularly beneficial for late-night coding sessions, as it’s preferable to working in a pitch-black room or battling bright lights if you’re up late writing.

MoonHalo can be easily turned on or off, providing seven different color temperatures ranging from daylight to warmer hues, along with adjustable brightness settings. You can tailor MoonHalo for various modes: a cool backlight in Light Mode, a warm ambience in Dark Mode, or no backlight at all in M-book mode.

When the monitor powers down, MoonHalo switches off automatically. During my trials using Apple Vision Pro with my Mac mini at night, the actual display also shut down, including the MoonHalo light. When I removed Apple Vision Pro, the display activated again, and the MoonHalo lit up my workspace—what a delightful experience!

Ergo Arm Functionality

The Ergo Arm is an absolute joy to operate. The monitor effortlessly floats above your desk, allowing you to raise or lower it with just a gentle touch. Its design includes two adjustable sections, enabling precise positioning. Additionally, you can swiftly switch the display from landscape to portrait mode.

Night Hours Protection Feature

The RD320UA incorporates a Night Hours Protection feature, which adjusts the screen’s brightness for nighttime use. According to BenQ, this includes “minimum brightness technology, a low-light eye-care filter, and dark-room display optimization.”

Utilizing advanced low brightness technology that can go significantly below standard levels, Night Hours Protection enables users to determine their ideal brightness even in dim conditions. This alleviates eye strain, allowing you to maintain focus while keeping your eyes fresh during late-night coding sessions.

Importantly, switching between modes and adjusting display settings is straightforward through the monitor’s built-in menu—there’s no need to sift through convoluted settings menus.

BenQ’s Nano Matte Panel enhances my experience with the RD320UA, making it excellent in direct sunlight while minimizing glare in darker settings.

Here are more specifications for the monitor:

  • 32-inch, 16:9, 3840×2160 resolution
  • Contrast ratio of 2000:1
  • 90W USB-C support
  • Built-in KVM switching
  • DualView Plus, picture-in-picture, and picture-by-picture compatibility

Lastly, I must highlight that the RD320UA is also fantastic for watching videos and films—ideal for enjoying some nostalgic lo-fi games on YouTube.

The BenQ RD320UA is currently available on benq.com and Amazon at a price of $699.99. You can also find compatible software, like Display Pilot 2, on their website.
