Leica is renowned for crafting stunning, minimalist cameras and exceptionally high-quality lenses that come with a price tag often described as “if you need to ask, you can’t afford it”.
There’s no denying that the recently unveiled Leica LUX grip for iPhone checks all the boxes for aesthetic appeal—but it also adheres to Leica’s typical pricing strategy…
A Leica camera body typically ranges from $1600 to over $5,000, with lenses sometimes approaching five figures.
In that context, $329 might seem like a bargain for a Leica item—but it’s still quite surprising given that you’re primarily paying for a grip for your iPhone.
To be fair, it appears to be a very stylish grip, featuring a MagSafe mount designed for both landscape and portrait orientations, a two-stage mechanical shutter release, two customizable function buttons, and a rotary setting dial. Additionally, it includes a one-year subscription to the Leica LUX Pro app, which purports to enhance your iPhone photography with a Leica-esque finish.
However, once that year expires, renewing the subscription costs $69.99 annually—necessary if you wish to keep utilizing the app. That’s right, the grip is exclusively compatible with the Leica app!
The Leica LUX Grip functions solely with the Leica LUX app. The standard iPhone camera app cannot be used with the Leica LUX Grip.
The grip also comes with an appealing leather carrying case that includes a holder for an AirTag, so it doesn’t get misplaced. However, this accessory is priced at an additional $50.
If you’re still intrigued, it will soon be available on Leica’s official website.
