Following last year’s tests, the Google app for iOS has introduced an Auto Dark Mode feature for its integrated web browser.
The Google app on iPhone opens external pages directly from Search results and the Discover feed in a dedicated browser. It includes an address bar, a tab grid for easy navigation, and a handy “Read Aloud” text-to-speech option.
The new Auto Dark Mode feature applies to websites that do not have their own dark theme. You can enable it by tapping the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner and selecting “Turn on Auto Dark Mode” from the bottom. This setting is persistent and can be toggled off effortlessly.

Google mentions that the “quality of sites may vary,” but they’ve been testing this feature since June via Search Labs, and feedback has been quite positive. (If you’re already part of the testing program, you can opt-out to access the stable version.)
Auto Dark Mode is now available with version 354.0 of the Google app on iOS.

In addition to these features, the Google app for iOS is discontinuing its integrated Gemini chat application. Previously, users had the option to switch between “Search” and “Gemini” via a tab switcher located at the top.
With the launch of the Gemini iPhone app in November, Google has been encouraging users to download the standalone application. The option to ignore the splash screen and continue using the previous experience has been removed as of today.
The Gemini interface within the Google app has remained unchanged since its introduction and has fallen behind the full client version that provides access to Gemini Live and other advanced features.
