This week, Apple launched an exciting new iPhone app named Invites (download here), designed for easy event organization with friends and family. However, some features are limited to specific users. Let’s explore who can make use of Apple’s latest app and its functionalities.
How to Install the Invites App
Who Can Use It? iPhone Users on iOS 18
The Invites app is currently unavailable on Android devices.
Also, it is not compatible with iPhone users who are still on iOS 17 or older versions. Apple’s new app requires the latest operating system, iOS 18, launched last fall.
Creating New Invites
Who Can Create Invites? iCloud+ or Apple One Subscribers
If you wish to create your own event invite, being an iCloud+ subscriber is required.
iCloud+ is Apple’s subscription service that offers added iCloud storage and various additional features such as iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, HomeKit Secure Video, and more.
Even the lowest tier iCloud+ plan at $0.99/month allows users to create and send invites.
Note: If you’re subscribed to any Apple One bundle, then both iCloud+ and Apple Invites are included at no extra charge.
How to Accept an Invite
Who Can Accept an Invite? Anyone with an Email Address
No Apple Account is necessary either.
All you need is a valid email address.
Collaborative Playlists
Who Can Do It? Apple Music Subscribers
Invites allows you to create a shared Apple Music playlist for your event, enabling guests to participate in its curation. It’s an excellent way to let attendees contribute to the event’s music selection.
To create a shared playlist, the event host must possess an active Apple Music subscription, which is a common requirement.
However, this also extends to your guests, who must also subscribe to Apple Music to make modifications to the playlist.
Shared Photo Album Contributor
Who Can Contribute? Apple Account Users
A standout feature of Apple Invites is the option to add a Shared Photo Album to your event.
This serves as a central hub for your guests to upload and share all the photos and videos captured during the event.
To contribute to a shared album, you need a free Apple Account. Notably, you don’t need an Apple device, as Invites allows photo uploads through its web interface at iCloud.com/invites.
