Apple TV+ is emerging as a hub for crime thrillers, and its upcoming release could be the standout yet.

Apple TV+ has established itself as a premier destination for science fiction series like Severance, Foundation, Dark Matter, and Silo. However, the platform is also expanding its repertoire with a variety of high-quality crime thrillers, and the upcoming show Dope Thief seems poised to be a standout.

Dope Thief premieres on Apple TV+ next month, and the initial trailer is impressive

Since its launch in 2019, Apple TV+ initially featured only its exclusive originals, resulting in a somewhat limited content library.

Nevertheless, Apple has significantly expanded its offerings over time, introducing more original series and additional seasons for hits like The Morning Show and Ted Lasso.

With this growing content library, TV+ has carved out a niche for itself as a prominent streamer for sci-fi, feel-good comedies from Bill Lawrence, and now it appears crime thrillers are emerging as yet another strong category for the service.

Currently, some of the best and most popular crime thrillers available on Apple TV+ include:

On March 14, Apple will unveil a new crime thriller titled Dope Thief.

The newly released trailer is quite striking.

My interest in Dope Thief was already piqued before watching the trailer, but the footage made it a must-see series for me.

The creative minds behind Apple’s upcoming crime thriller

Dope Thief is executive produced by Ridley Scott, who also directs the initial episode. The series is created by Peter Craig, renowned for co-writing numerous Hollywood blockbusters, including The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick, and The Town.

Craig’s experience with films like The Town and, to a certain extent, Matt Reeves’ The Batman prepare him well to take on a substantial crime drama like Dope Thief.

Apple describes the series as follows:

Centered around Dennis Tafoya’s novel “Dope Thief,” this series tracks the exploits of lifelong friends and troublemakers from Philadelphia who impersonate DEA agents to carry out a robbery at a secluded house, only to find their petty scheme escalate into a fight for their lives as they inadvertently expose a significant hidden narcotics trafficking route along the Eastern Seaboard.

The cast of Dope Thief features Brian Tyree Henry, Wagner Moura, Ving Rhames, and more.

The first two episodes will premiere on Friday, March 14, with subsequent episodes released weekly until April 25.

While Dope Thief differs significantly in genre and tone from Severance, its apparent quality, as suggested by the trailer, may provide an excellent reason for Severance fans to maintain their subscriptions to Apple TV+ after the current season wraps up on March 21.

Apple TV+ is priced at $9.99 per month.
