A new capability being introduced with the Oppo Find N5 will enable Mac users to manage their computers directly from their smartphones, enhancing the integration between their devices and macOS as a whole.
Oppo is striving to enhance support for users who are part of Apple’s ecosystem. Previously, the company unveiled O+ Connect, allowing seamless file transfers between Oppo and OnePlus smartphones and iOS devices, akin to AirDrop. Now, O+ Connect is extending its features to Mac.
Beginning with the Oppo Find N5, O+ Connect will facilitate two types of integration between your Oppo device and macOS systems such as MacBook. Firstly, the Mac application will enable wireless access to the files on your smartphone, allowing easy retrieval of files, images, and even notes without needing to unlock your phone.
The more intriguing feature, however, is the ability to control your Mac remotely from the Oppo Find N5.
Leveraging the Find N5’s 8.12-inch display, users will have a view of their Mac’s screen on one side of the foldable device, with a keyboard and trackpad accessible on the other, as illustrated above. Oppo elaborates:
Once connected, position the Find N5 in FlexForm Mode for a laptop-like experience, turning the lower half of the folded display into a trackpad. This allows you to interact with your macOS device utilizing familiar gestures: pinch to zoom in and out with two fingers, scroll up or down by gliding two fingers across the screen, access Mission Control with a three-finger swipe up, switch between workspaces with three fingers, and initiate Launchpad by pinching in with four fingers.
While file sharing necessitates both devices being connected to the same Wi-Fi network, remote control capabilities are available even when your Mac is distant from the phone, making it a useful option when away from home.
This functionality is likely to be rolled out to additional Oppo (and potentially OnePlus) smartphones in the future, but the foldable design certainly enhances its practicality.
The Oppo Find N5 is set to launch globally—though not in the U.S.—this week.
