This year, Apple TV+ is reaching new milestones, largely driven by the phenomenal success of Severance. Following the announcement that Severance has become the most viewed program on the platform, Apple has also revealed that the newly released film, The Gorge, achieved the highest launch figures for a movie on TV+.

Previously, the most viewed film on the platform was Wolfs, the film featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, which had a canceled theatrical release that ultimately led to significant viewership on Apple TV+.
While The Gorge may not have surpassed Wolfs in total viewership numbers, it has been officially recognized as having the best performance for a film launch on the platform so far.

Although Apple does not release specific viewership figures, the company confirms that it marks the largest film premiere in Apple TV+ history, resulting in double-digit global growth for the service and an increase of +80% in new viewers week-over-week following its debut on Friday, February 14.
The Gorge features Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller in a blend of sci-fi, horror, romance, and thriller genres. It is directed by Scott Derrickson, who has a strong background in horror as well as experience with Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Apple’s New Film Strategy Appears to be Effective
This latest development underscores Apple’s evolving success with its revised film strategy.
The company previously encountered mixed outcomes with its earlier focus on high-budget theatrical releases. After the lackluster performances of Fly Me to the Moon and Argylle, Apple pivoted to a more Netflix-style strategy of direct-to-streaming releases, which seems to be yielding positive results.
