Today, Apple has discontinued watchOS 11.4 beta 1 for users of all Apple Watch Series 6 models, which means these users can no longer test the latest beta version. This update was shared by Aaron Perris on X. Additionally, iOS 18.4 beta 1 has also been discontinued for certain iPhone 12 models.
Yesterday, Apple launched the watchOS 11.4 beta along with iOS 18.4 beta, visionOS 2.4 beta, and more. While the previous beta versions introduced several new features, the specific changes in watchOS 11.4 beta remain unclear.
However, two users on the r/watchOSbeta subreddit reported that their Apple Watches became inoperable after updating. One user confirmed they were using a Series 6, while the other user did not specify their model. This led Apple to seemingly retract the new beta.
According to Aaron, this affects all versions of Series 6:
- Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS, 40mm)
- Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS, 44mm)
- Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS + Cellular, 40mm)
- Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS + Cellular, 44mm)
Furthermore, Apple has also discontinued iOS 18.4 beta 1 for two iPhone 12 variants, specifically the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. It’s not clear what specific issue affected only these two devices rather than the entire iPhone 12 range, but some users experienced boot looping.
Hopefully, Apple will quickly reintroduce the betas. It’s important to note that the Series 6 is the oldest model of Apple Watch that supports watchOS 11.
