Google Photos Now Gets Pixel-Exclusive Editing Features For Android But For A Price

Google has recently announced that it will be adding some of its exclusive and fancy Pixel editing features to Google Photos for all Android users. However, this doesn’t come without a condition. Android users will have to pay Google One and become a subscriber to avail this additional feature.

Talks regarding the inclusion of these Pixel-exclusive features in Android Google Photos have been going on for a long time but the official statement came out this Thursday, February 11th. The enhanced features that will be applicable on Android include the latest machine-learning backed editing gears such as Color Pop, Portrait Light, Portrait Blur, and so on. Google had already opened up these features for a wider audience outside of Pixel 5 back in 2019. Now it seems that Google is taking the venture farther.

Google Photos To Be Revamped With New AI-Powered Filters

In a recent interview, the office of Google clarified that the recent paywall does not mean that the existing versions of these features in Google Photos will be removed or brought under the paywall umbrella. They further mention that the current depth sensors and portrait mode shots will continue to be available for all users for free. The paywall is only for those users who wish to avail the latest versions of the Pixel editing features.

The additional takeaway of this paid, subscription-only editing model is that users will be able to use the latest effects on older photos as well that do not have the same depth data and so on. It is true that Google Pixel users can avail this feature for free. But the doors have opened for Android users who wanted to use the latest versions of these editing features. Additionally, Google Photos is also likely to get AI-backed filters and a new “dynamic” setting that will have its own default setting.
