It looks like Google is starting to update all of its applications for iOS. It had been more than two months since an update had shown up for the major apps like YouTube. However, the application got an update just this weekend. And was the first in a while. Many have said that it is pretty standard for Google to not provide updates in the holiday season. That is from December to January.
The updates are not provided in the months as there might be a lack of staff. The holiday season often renders that to offices, and hence, fewer people to solve issues or bugs. But the updates always resume in the month of January. The thing is, this year, iOS apps did not see any update from Google until this past weekend. There were several questions raised about the delay in updates. And many jumped to several conclusions. The most popular and unanimous opinion was that of Apple’s brand new update on privacy policy. Apple launched these updates more than a month ago. And several applications need to accept these policies before updating them.
The Reason Behind Google’s Actual Delay
Google spoke about the delay in updates recently. They confirmed that it was not due to Apple’s new policies and terms on privacy. This update helps users to know which application consumes which personal data. Also, whether those data collected are for tracking them or marketing purposes. YouTube, in turn, already had these labels. Unlike Google. In fact, subsidies of YouTube, like YouTube TV, YouTube Studio, and even YouTube Music, had these permissions. And so the updates came first.
The question remains whether Google is concerned about the new privacy policy of Apple or not. Facebook has condemned the update, while Snapchat has supported their decision.
