Kyndryl may sound like the name of a legendary pokemon or a fake futuristic medicine in Cyberpunk 2077. However, it is neither of them. IBM has given its legacy infrastructure business for IT the wacky name Kyndryl.
Kyndryl Will Be A New Entity
IBM is looking to set up Kyndryl as a separate new company. This is being done so that the parent company can focus on the firm’s newer areas which are also expected to be more lucrative. This emphasis includes cloud services and AI.
As for what the name means, IBM released a formal statement. It said that “Kyn” is taken from the English word kinship. It is a reference to the belief that the company’s relationship involving people is the main pillar of Kyndryl’s strategy. Furthermore, enduring relationships will also be nurtured and sought out. “Dryl” is a reference to the English word tendril. This is expected to paint an image of new growth and the concept that the firm is always looking to advance human progress in collaboration with partners and customers.
Tendril and kinship are evidently the first two words that pop up when thinking about organized infrastructure services. Of course, Kyndryl has an additional helping of ‘y’. This letter is assumed to convey the idea of true growth and partnership that is central to the corporate IT setup of the firm.
However, the industry consensus is that the new weird name is nothing more than being SEO-friendly. NewCo was the original name that was supposed to be given to the branch company. However, such a name easily fades out. Kyndryl, on the other hand, is far too unique to be confused among identical internet search results. Martin Schroeter, the CEO of the firm, expects global customers to think of it as being vital to progress.
