The Google Pixel 7 is a sight to watch for.
To begin, the GS201 chip will have a – as of yet undisclosed – Samsung modem with the model number “g5300b.” The Pixel 6’s modem is listed as “g5123b,” which is the Exynos Modem 5123. Given the model number, we expect Google’s second-generation Tensor processor will include the Exynos Modem 5300, the specifications of which have yet to be revealed.
Along with Cloudripper, there are three more device codenames related to the Exynos Modem 5300 in the code.
Google Pixel 7 Has Feline Names
The first two we’ll look at are “Cheetah” and “Panther.” 9to5 Google has learned that these two codenames are related to the Google Pixel 7 and, most probably, the Pixel 7 Pro sets, which are scheduled to be released this autumn. We are now significantly more convinced that the Pixel 7 series will be powered by the second-generation Google Tensor GS201 CPU, as these devices are said to feature the same modem as Cloudripper.
As an aside, the codenames Panther and Cheetah are feline. Prior to the Pixel 6 series, all Pixel and Nexus phones were given codenames that were connected to marine creatures. Meanwhile, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro took a different approach, going by the codenames Raven and Oriole.
This avian nomenclature is set to continue, with the Pixel 6a being “Bluejay” and the Pixel Notepad being “Pipit.” It’s too early to say with certainty, but it appears that Google is currently switching its Pixel hardware codename scheme on a generational basis, with the 2022-2023 season being given cat-like codenames.
The third new Pixel codename associated with the Exynos Modem 5300 is “Ravenclaw,” which may appear to be a straightforward Hogwarts allusion at first sight, but there’s a bit more subtlety to it.
