The strange thing is that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have comparable front-facing cameras in terms of hardware, but only the Pro will have face unlock.
There’s no extra hardware for facial recognition, such as Google’s Soli technology, which debuted on the Pixel 4, and there’s also no infrared camera. The front-facing cameras on both devices are slightly different, with the Pixel 6 having an 8MP camera and the Pixel 6 Pro having an 11MP camera. “Tuscany” appears to be Google’s internal codename for face unlocks on the Pixel 6 Pro, and the firm has been working on reducing its battery usage.
According to reports, Google dropped face support unlock for the Pixel 6 Pro just before launch, implying that the feature was already available and operating at the time. This corresponds to the leaked marketing material we’ve seen, which shows that the alteration was made at the last minute. Since then, we’ve spotted sporadic allusions to it on people’s smartphones, implying that Google has been up to something amusing. On the Pixel 6 series, the in-display fingerprint scanner is now the only biometric authentication option, and it appears that this will remain the case with the ordinary Pixel 6.
