Amazon Alexa Can Now Control A Lamborghini Using Speech

Amazon Alexa is stepping forward in its attempt to integrate itself into cars by partnering with Lamborghini. The Huracan EVO from the luxury brand will have the latest feature that will let the user control various settings of the car by simply speaking to the voice assistant.

The functions include asking questions, remotely controlling the car from home, as well as adjusting the settings of the car without having to use hands. The collaboration announcement was made last year as Amazon tried to develop technology for cars. The full integration is well beyond what was expected.

The integration of Amazon Alexa means users can now control comfort settings like adjusting the climate, setting up the A/C, airflow direction, defroster, seat heaters, temperature, fan speed, and heater. It can also adjust the lighting. These claims were made by Lamborghini on its own website. Alexa can also display the traction control and torque vectoring on a screen.

This does not mean the car will not have any physical controls. Currently, the steering wheel, the door on the driver’s side, and a center console house most of the settings and buttons. As such, Amazon Alexa integration will bring a different level of ease-of-access. Reportedly the A/C can be turned on by simply saying that the temperature is too hot.

The integration, of course, enhances driver safety by lessening the need for the driver to look away from the road. It is still not at the stage where Alexa can drive the car, but the companies are hopeful of that happening soon.

The automotive industry has been looking to move away from physical buttons for a while now. In the past, Amazon had introduced the Echo Auto that had Alexa as well. Apart from Lamborghini, the Polestar 2 from Volvo also features a similar concept but with Google Assistant.
