As we reach the third week of 2025, Apple has made a slight yet significant update to its CarPlay website: the anticipated arrival of CarPlay 2 is no longer stated to be in 2024, marking a clear delay.
Revised CarPlay website eliminates mention of the expected launch date
Apple’s aspirations to launch CarPlay 2 (the ‘next generation of CarPlay’) have faced an official setback.
The company has updated its website, omitting any reference to a 2024 launch deadline (as initially reported by MacRumors).
Throughout 2024, Apple’s CarPlay site consistently indicated that the first vehicles featuring CarPlay 2 would debut within the year.
Even up to December, the wording remained the same, leading many, including myself, to anticipate an announcement before the deadline was crossed.
This scenario mirrors the previous year when Apple assured that the first automakers supporting CarPlay 2 would be revealed. They fulfilled that promise, albeit just in time, with a news release in December.
However, in 2024, the anticipated deadline for CarPlay came and went without any announcement.
There are numerous indications that Apple is still diligently working on the new CarPlay system, but it’s evidently not yet ready for launch.
Personally, I hope Apple considers a new approach by integrating CarPlay 2 capabilities into the existing platform. This would allow millions of current CarPlay users to take advantage of the enhancements.
For now, all we can discern is that Apple and its automotive partners are actively developing the next generation of CarPlay—and we must simply wait for more news.
