As reported in the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, Apple aims to enhance video recording capabilities for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models. Historically, the company has concentrated on photography, making it refreshing to see a renewed emphasis on video functionality.
Apple’s ambition is to position the iPhone as a substitute for traditional cameras. They have been striving to create the ultimate mobile camera system for some time. This development will be elevated by their increased focus on video. While iPhones have always performed well in video recording, Apple is intent on taking it to the next level.
According to Gurman, one of Apple’s objectives for the 2025 iPhone lineup, including the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, is to attract vloggers and various content creators to transition from standalone cameras to using iPhones for more of their projects:
A primary goal for the 2025 iPhone lineup is to encourage the vlogging community and other video creators to move away from traditional cameras in favor of the iPhone for a greater portion of their work. Expect Apple to highlight these enhanced video recording features more than ever when the new iPhones launch in September.
While the report doesn’t delve into specific strategies on how Apple intends to advance the iPhone 17 Pro’s video capabilities, we remain hopeful for more information in the near future. This development certainly piques my interest.
