Apple Card Holders Impacted by LA Wildfires Can Delay Payments

Following Tim Cook’s announcement regarding Apple’s donation to support those impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles, the company has now confirmed additional relief for Apple Card users in the affected areas. These individuals will be able to defer their Apple Card payments temporarily without accruing interest.

Temporary Relief for Apple Card Holders in LA Announced by Apple and Goldman Sachs

As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is reaching out to users whose addresses are categorized as “natural disaster zones.” The company indicates that these users “may qualify” for assistance with their Apple Card payments. Specifically, Apple Card holders in the wildfire-affected regions can skip their upcoming month’s payment without incurring interest.

Besides the interest waiver, affected users can skip payments without the risk of account suspension. Below are the benefits offered through the Disaster Relief Program:

  • You can defer the payment due for the month in which you enroll.
  • No interest will apply for the month you enroll. Your standard purchase APR will take effect in the subsequent month.
  • If your account is in good standing, it will remain active while you are enrolled.
  • Accounts that are past due will not progress further into delinquency while enrolled but will stay past due until all overdue payments are settled.
  • If there were spending restrictions on your account, they may continue while enrolled.

Customers in impacted areas need to reach out to Apple Card Support through Messages. To do this on your iPhone, open the Wallet app, select Apple Card, tap the More button, then choose Account Details. Tap the Message button, and enter a request such as, “I would like to explore payment assistance plan options.”

The wildfires in Los Angeles continue to be devastating. A report from BBC News indicates that despite firefighters’ efforts, the situation remains dire with at least five confirmed fatalities. Thousands of individuals have been evacuated from their homes, often without their possessions.

In response, Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted about the tragedy while announcing a corporate donation for relief efforts.

The destruction caused by the wildfires in Los Angeles is truly heartbreaking. Gratitude to the brave firefighters, first responders, and everyone involved in these heroic efforts. Apple will be contributing to support the victims and ongoing recovery actions.
