Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, has released a research note which states that the Apple headsets might be the least heavy among all of its competitors. The mixed-reality headset is rumored to weigh below 150 grams. The decreased weight has the implication that users will find it wearable for extended time periods.
The Edge For The Apple Headsets
Currently, Hololens 2 from Microsoft weighs 645 grams. Valve’s Index weighs in at 809 grams, and the Quest 2 from Oculus comes in around 503 grams. The weight of Daydream View, the VR headset by Google that holds your phone, weighs 220 grams. 164 grams is the weight of the default specifications iPhone 12. As such, the rumored Apple Headset is lighter than all of them.
However, there is currently no inkling as to when even a prototype could be accessible. The expected date was last reported as 2022 being the earliest. This was stated by reports in January. The apple headsets will feature virtual reality as wells as augmented reality. Further reports in February further supported the same date.
However, there are reports of the design of the device. It apparently features mesh fabric on the front side. It will also have bands shaped similar to those on the Apple Watch at the back of the device.
N301 is the codename for the Apple headset. It will also additionally feature a display of 8K resolution, technology that supports eye-tracking, and over 12 cameras to read your hands as well as take videos that will be overlaid for the viewer’s eyes. In the research note by Kuo, plastic lenses, a focal length that is ultra-short, and a Micro-OLED display were added.
However, it is set to be pretty expensive with a price tag of around $3000. Even though there are no official statements, Apple has reportedly reshuffled its staff to speed up the launch.
