Apple Intelligence Fully Supported in the EU with iOS 18.4 Release

Apple Intelligence Fully Supported in the EU with iOS 18.4 Release

The release of iOS 18.4 brings a host of enhancements for iPhone users, with a standout feature for those in the EU: full support for Apple Intelligence is now available.

iOS 18.4 introduces Apple Intelligence to EU users

Shortly after the launch of the initial Apple Intelligence feature set at WWDC last June, Apple faced criticism when it announced that the AI features wouldn’t be available for EU users at launch or until further notice.

The reason behind this delay was the need to comply with certain EU regulations.

Unlike the iPhone and iPad, the Mac was not subject to the specific requirements outlined in the EU’s Digital Markets Act.

However, after a lengthy wait, Apple finally delivered promising news for iPhone users. Just as Apple Intelligence was made publicly available, the company confirmed that it would also launch in the EU through a software update scheduled for April.

This update surprisingly arrived ahead of schedule when iOS 18.4 was released on March 31.

The timing of the EU support coincides well with Apple’s expanded language offerings in iOS 18.4.

Apple Intelligence features now accessible in the EU

With iOS and iPadOS 18.4, users in the EU can finally access the same Apple Intelligence features that many other regions have enjoyed. These features include:

  • Writing Tools: Utilize systemwide tools for proofreading, rewriting, or reformatting your text.
  • Photos Cleanup: Effortlessly remove unwanted objects from your photos.
  • Notification Summaries: Receive more actionable and insightful notifications through AI summaries.
  • Genmoji: Create custom emojis for use in any application.
  • ChatGPT in Siri: Siri can access ChatGPT’s knowledge, allowing you to query ChatGPT directly.
  • Image Playground: Generate original AI images in various animation or illustration styles.
  • Visual Intelligence: Utilize the iPhone’s Camera Control or Action button to gather relevant information from your surroundings.

Previously, EU users were completely barred from accessing Apple Intelligence on their iPhones and iPads. Regardless of device region or language settings, Apple restricted access based solely on location.

This is no longer the case. With the introduction of iOS 18.4, AI access is now only blocked in China, and there is hope that this will change soon as well.

If you’re located in the EU, how do you feel about the addition of Apple Intelligence? Share your thoughts in the comments.
