Apple frequently refreshes the layout of the App Store to enhance usability or to highlight certain content sections. Recently, several notable updates were introduced, making it simpler than ever to discover new apps on the iPhone and beyond.
Categories are now prominently displayed across three App Store discovery tabs
Apple has recently implemented changes across three tabs in its App Store:
These tabs have introduced significant app category buttons at or near the top of their pages.
While category buttons aren’t a new concept, they previously appeared much lower down on the page.
Now, categories are the first items visible in the Apps and Games tabs.
For the Arcade tab, they are positioned just below the featured game carousel at the very top.
App categories serve as one of the best avenues for discovering new applications, as the App Store offers a diverse range of categories to explore.
The organization of these categories is still somewhat ambiguous, but they may be adjusted based on each device’s download or search history.
For instance, I’m currently viewing Productivity, Utilities, and Entertainment as the top three categories on my iPhone’s Apps tab, which closely aligns with my app usage patterns. Conversely, my iPad displays different prioritized categories, as do my wife’s devices.
Regardless, when you’re in search of a new application within a particular category, it will be easier than ever to find what you need.
