Apple’s developer portal has announced a new API that aims to enhance management options for In-App Purchases. This new feature, called the Advanced Commerce API, brings some significant updates, which we delve into below.
Advanced Commerce API provides more flexibility for App Store developers
Here is the official announcement:
The App Store facilitates billions of transactions each year, allowing developers to expand their businesses and deliver an outstanding customer experience. To further enhance developers’ evolving business models—like extensive content catalogs, creator experiences, and subscriptions with additional options—we are rolling out the Advanced Commerce API.
Developers can apply to utilize the Advanced Commerce API to accommodate eligible App Store business models and manage their In-App Purchases more flexibly within their applications. These transactions will benefit from the robust App Store commerce infrastructure, including complete payment processing, tax support, customer service, and more, enabling developers to concentrate on creating excellent app experiences.
Apple’s announcement also provides a link for developers to learn about eligibility criteria and the application process.
At the time of this publication, however, that link redirects to Apple’s standard In-App Purchase information for developers. Initially, the link was non-functional.
We hope Apple will soon provide a dedicated page with further details. For now, it appears that Apple is broadening the options available for developers to manage In-App Purchases in their apps.
Regardless of the final details, these changes suggest greater options and flexibility, which are undoubtedly positive developments.
