At present, Apple Intelligence has enabled Siri to forward requests to ChatGPT, yielding more contextual responses than Siri could typically provide. During WWDC24, Apple’s Craig Federighi indicated that they are interested in incorporating other AI models, such as Google Gemini. A recent leak suggests that this integration may be arriving soon.
A backend update released alongside the iOS 18.4 beta now adds options for “Google” and “OpenAI” third-party models in Apple Intelligence. This information comes from code investigator Aaron Perris on X.
While this update doesn’t definitively confirm that we will see Gemini integration with iOS 18.4, especially considering the numerous delays surrounding Apple Intelligence, it strongly suggests that it is likely to happen in the near future, possibly in a subsequent iOS 18 update or iOS 19. Apple is anticipated to introduce its own conversational Siri model with iOS 19.
Recently, Google launched new Gemini 2.0 models, including an updated reasoning model. These new models may potentially make their way to iPhones soon, particularly for users of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16/16 Pro, or the latest iPhone 16e.
