In June, Apple launched a beta version of Apple Maps for the web, enabling users on various platforms, including Windows PCs, to utilize its mapping services straight from their browsers. Initially, the beta was quite restricted, but it has recently received a significant upgrade with the introduction of the Look Around feature.
Look Around Now Available on Apple Maps Web App
As highlighted by Chris Carley, users can now access the Look Around feature in the web version of Apple Maps. The Look Map website, which provides an overview of coverage across major mapping platforms, indicates that Apple integrated this feature around December 11.
For those who may not be aware, Look Around serves as Apple’s alternative to Street View. Launched in 2019 with iOS 13, it offers users the opportunity to navigate their environment through 360-degree panoramic imagery. Wherever available, Look Around can be activated by clicking on the binoculars icon within Apple Maps.
This feature is currently available in select cities across the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K., the European Union, and several other locations. A comprehensive list is available on Apple’s official website.
Apple notes that Apple Maps on the web remains in “public beta.” The web application provides the ability to explore the map, search for businesses and points of interest, find directions, and view guides. However, services like the transit map and 3D buildings are not yet operational. There’s also no option to log in with an Apple ID to access saved locations and custom guides.
Apple has stated that additional features, platforms, and languages will be incorporated over time. To experience Apple Maps on the web, you can visit beta.maps.apple.com using Safari, Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
