Apple One delivers significant value by bundling services for TV, games, music, and more. However, one notable absence in this package is a vital service: Books.
Apple Books continues to struggle against competitors, and Apple One could make a difference
For a long time, I have relied on Apple Books for my ebook and audiobook needs.
The Books app offers a superior experience compared to rivals like Kindle and Audible. Additionally, I have always admired the editorial team’s efforts behind Books.
Nevertheless, it’s clear that Apple Books has not been thriving.
Amazon has taken a commanding lead in the market, and now Spotify is also making strong inroads into the audiobook space.
To complicate things, Amazon recently announced that its Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers will also gain access to audiobooks.
I have previously suggested that Apple Books could benefit from acquiring significant content to enhance its library.
However, here’s a potentially more appealing idea for Apple:
Incorporate a monthly allowance for Apple Books into the Apple One bundle.
Integrating Apple Books into Apple One Premier
Apple has numerous options for implementing this.
One straightforward and cost-efficient approach could allow Premier subscribers to access one ebook or audiobook at a time, provided they maintain an active subscription.
This could incentivize current Apple One users to upgrade from their Individual or Family plans to Premier. For existing Premier subscribers, it would present an additional reason to continue paying that $37.95 monthly fee.
The crucial services revenue for Apple would grow, and Apple Books would benefit as users might start engaging with an app they typically overlook.
Moreover, both Amazon and Spotify have shown that consumers are open to considering books as part of a monthly subscription, rather than as individual purchases. Apple has yet to align with this trend.
Implementing this change could offer Apple One an exciting boost in benefits, possibly encouraging many users to keep their subscriptions active.
