Apple Set to Introduce Standalone Repairs for MacBook Pro Speakers, Likely Lowering Costs

To enhance repairability across its product range, Apple will soon offer MacBook Pro speakers as separate components for sale, a practice not seen since the 2015 MacBook Pro model.

As reported by MacRumors, Apple has circulated a memo to its stores and authorized service providers this week, informing them that standalone speaker replacements will be available for the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros equipped with M4 chips.

Moreover, another source from MacRumors suggests that Apple intends to expand this repair service to include older 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models:

A trusted source indicates that Apple is now granting technicians access to individual speaker components for ALL 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring Apple silicon, dating back to models with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

Earlier this week, Apple published speaker repair guides on its website, detailing the intricate and challenging process, although the speaker parts are not yet available in the self-service repair store.

Previously, replacing speakers in MacBook Pro models from 2016 onward necessitated changing the entire top case, making it a costly repair due to the need for replacing a significant portion of the MacBook chassis. With the introduction of standalone speakers for repair, this process is expected to become much more economically feasible.

As of now, there is no information regarding whether this repair option will extend to other Mac models in the future, such as the MacBook Air.

Regardless, this is a positive advancement toward creating more repairable Apple products.
