Apple Supports World AIDS Day Again: Donating $5 for Every Purchase

Apple is continuing its tradition of supporting World Aids Day on December 1st, pledging to contribute $5 for every eligible purchase made between November 29 and December 8.

This marks the 18th consecutive year that Apple has backed The Global Fund, an organization dedicated to combating HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria.

The Global Fund

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was founded in 2002 and has played a significant role in saving 65 million lives since its inception.

The Global Fund is a global coalition aimed at eradicating HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria while promoting a healthier, safer, and more equitable future for all. Annually, we generate and invest over US$5 billion to combat deadly infectious diseases, address the inequalities that drive them, and enhance health systems and pandemic preparedness in over 100 of the most affected countries.

We collaborate with world leaders, communities, civil society, health professionals, and private sector entities to develop impactful solutions and scale them globally. Since our founding in 2002, we have saved 65 million lives.

We are recognized as the largest multilateral funder of health programs in low- and middle-income countries, having allocated more than US$65 billion since 2002. Equipped with science, financial resources, political commitment, and strong leadership, we are determined to confront and conquer fatal diseases.

The Global Fund exemplifies how collaboration with civil society, governments, business partners, philanthropists, technical experts, and communities affected by diseases can lead to life-saving changes in the battle against HIV, TB, and malaria.

Apple’s Commitment to World Aids Day

Apple has been a proactive supporter of the fund since shortly after its establishment. A key initiative involves collaborating with (PRODUCT)RED to develop limited-edition Apple products in red, with up to 50% of the profits directed to the fund.

The introduction of the (RED) iPod Nano initiated one of the most successful partnerships with (RED), extending to the immensely popular iPhone and Apple Watch. Since 2006, Apple has raised $250 million for HIV testing, treatment, and counseling initiatives. This commitment has inspired other tech companies and beyond to participate in the movement.

Additionally, Apple contributes by making annual donations based on sales of all Apple products during the timeframe surrounding World Aids Day.

This year, from November 29 through December 8, Apple will donate $5 for every purchase made with Apple Pay on apple.com, via the Apple Store app, or at physical Apple Stores. These contributions will support the Global Fund’s efforts against AIDS and assist vital health programs that save lives.

The company traditionally changes the Apple Store logos to red on December 1st.
